Block-o-Clock: Dirty Dalgona
If you haven’t seen any of the trending Dalgona Coffee videos, you’ve clearly not been spending enough time on Instagram. Although the origin of this popular beverage has recently been up for debate, it is made by whisking sugar, coffee powder, and hot water until it becomes a frothy, creamy concoction then adding it to hot or cold milk. Considering its recent popularity, we dare to call it the official “quarantine drink”.
Our bartender Natasha put a Block spin on this drink by transforming it into a boozy cocktail. She adds chai tea to incorporate some spicy notes. For some extra fun, enjoy this drink while dancing around your house listening to MJ’s Dirty Diana!
Dirty Dalgona
Ingredients:
2 oz vodka or 1 oz vodka 1 oz coffee liqueur
2.5 oz chai tea
2.5 oz unsweetened oat milk (or milk of choice)
0.25 oz agave ( honey or maple syrup)
Dalgona Coffee
1 tablespoon instant espresso*
½ tablespoon sugar
1 ½ tablespoon hot water
Chai Tea
2 bags chai tea
2 cups hot water
To begin, bring water to a boil. Pour into a measuring cup and add tea bags. Let steeps for 2-3 minutes, or until desired.
Meanwhile, make the Dalgona Coffee. In a large bowl, add instant espresso, sugar, and hot water. Mix with an electric mixer or blender until soft peaks form, approximately 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
Combine vodka, coffee liqueur, chai team, milk and agave in a shaker with ice. Shake for 30 seconds. Strain into a pint glass 0r Mason jar. Add ice leaving 1-inch of space at the top. Top with Dalgona coffee mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon, stir, and serve immediately.
*Note: Instant espresso is more potent than instant coffee and will make the drink stronger. If you only have instant coffee at home, feel free to use this as a substitute.
